Left to right, Untitled #1 - #10, 2009, Acrylic, mirrored glass, ink and graphite on MDF, each 14"x 11"
09DEC2009
These paintings draw on personal imagery from old photographs that have been rendered freehand then transferred to MDF using black ink. Also employed are collaged pieces of cut and broken mirrored glass, physically bringing the image of the viewer-- albeit transiently-- into the experience of the painting. On an ideological level, the scant form and vibrant swaths of flat paint that reminisce of seemingly frenzied migratory map patterns, put the painting, and thus the physicality of the viewer, into a transitory context.
